The multitool embodies many core principles of EDC — utility, versatility, portability. For quick fixes, tinkering, and other handy work, having a toolbox’s worth of functionality in a single pocketable tool is invaluable. Common multitool functions include pliers, screwdrivers, bottle openers, scissors, and other cutting tools. Multitools can complement the functions of other essentials when weight and pocket space are a premium, so naturally they round out the second trinity of EDC.
Multi-tools come in many shapes and sizes. The two most recognizable form factors are the “Swiss Knife” style and the butterfly or clamshell style. The Swiss Knife style has tools that pivot out of a pocket knife handle, where the blade is the central function of the tool. The butterfly or clamshell style of multi-tools fold open into two handles with pliers being the usual central tool. The rest of the tool implements are tucked away into the handles of this style of multi-tool. Lastly, there are one-piece tools, which are pieces of metal designed with functional cutouts like wrench slots, or screwdrivers built into the shape of the tool itself.
Everyday Carry is all about making a setup that fits your needs. Just as no two people are exactly alike, their respective EDCs will vary significantly. Acquire and carry what you need according to your lifestyle, location, profession, daily routine, style, budget, and so on.
In general, your carry should be reliable and functional, but most importantly, personal. You might be a minimalist at heart, or you’d have peace of mind knowing all your bases are covered. If your EDC becomes an extension of you, you should be completely comfortable with it! A great EDC shows the foresight to include what you personally need for your day to day, and the restraint to leave behind what you don’t.

Leatherman Tread LT
When the masters of multi-tools at Leatherman released the original Tread, they designed it to tackle most everyday tasks in a wearable bracelet form-factor that could both free up pocket space and travel with you. But unlike the rest of their tool lineup, the Tread originally only came in one style and size which wasn’t the best fir for some EDCers. That’s why Leatherman introduced the Tread LT bracelet. This new, lower-profile design slims things down a bit while still giving you access to over two dozen functions right from your wrist.
The original Tread was a solid tool in its own right but if you want that same functionality with less bulk, this EDC wearable might be for you. While the Tread LT opts for TSA-compliance instead of offering a blade in its toolset, it still offers 29 other useful tools you can use in a pinch. There are 19 links in total with each one contributing a few different tools to the bracelet. You’ll get everything from a SIM card tool (useful for frequent flyers), to different sized wrenches, and even a carbide glass breaker to name a few. Should you find yourself using some tools more than others you can always remove the less frequently used links and replace it with others. This customizability not only means that you can tailor it to your needs, but also that it can fit on almost any sized wrist.
